It is 1943, at the end of World War II. After signing an armistice, Italy was divided into north and south by the Allied Forces, Nazi Germany, and the Fascist Party. In the mountain village of Marzavotto in the Italian Social Republic under German rule, resistance by local partisans intensified, and in September 1944, an unprecedented massacre of civilians began as a clean-up operation.
