This is the third installment in the Year Book series released in 2017.Originally, the plan was to compile the decade of the 1980s, but there were too many candidates, so the works here are from the first half of the 1980s.
Although some studio tracks are included, such as "Photo Musique (dub)," which was only played once on the radio, this work is mostly characterized by the inclusion of many live tracks that are being released to the public for the first time.
These include a live collaboration with Phew in 1980, "Tokyoku," a live performance with the band B-2 Units, "Shosetsu," a choral piece commissioned by the Tokyo Philharmonic Chorus, which some members refused to sing because of Ryu Murakami's radical lyrics, and finally, the 1984 Kanagawa Arts Festival "Japanese Contemporary Finally, there is a rare performance of five pieces from "Merry Christmas in the Battlefield" with Yuji Takahashi and Aki Takahashi as guests and three solo pieces from the 1984 Kanagawa Arts Festival's "The World of Ryuichi Sakamoto: Japanese Contemporary Composers Series".
As in the past, an interview with Ryuichi Sakamoto explaining the songs and a booklet with rare photos from that time are also included.
This third volume in Ryuichi Sakamoto's archive "Year Book Series" contains valuable sound recordings from 1980-1984.
During this period, Sakamoto Ryuichi was actively involved in the underground genre of music while producing "Merry Christmas at the Battlefield".
This is a treasure trove of songs that are being packaged for the first time, including live recordings from Kyoto Kaikan, Kanagawa Arts Festival, and B-2 Units.
The recordings are a must-listen for music fans as well as Sakamoto fans!
