商品説明

Directed by Hwang Dong-hyuk and released in 2017, this film marked Sakamoto’s first appearance in a South Korean movie. The realism of the footage—shot entirely on location to capture the extreme conditions of a siege plagued by hunger and cold—is staggering, but by adding a variety of sounds, Sakamoto elevates this film beyond a mere historical drama to a whole new dimension. The ultra-low frequencies and ambient sounds in “Vacant Throne,” the analog synth chords and deep bass in “The Fortress Title,” the deeply reverberated piano played from within in “Dispute,”and the noise from the modular synth in “Yong’s Threat”... these sounds are reminiscent of his late-career solo album *async*, and they are so captivating that you’ll find yourself listening intently, forgetting that this is a film soundtrack.Of course, the elegant, enveloping strings in the main theme, “King’s March Strings Version,” are the very essence of Sakamoto’s artistry, and traditional film music elements are also skillfully incorporated—such as the orchestration and rhythms reminiscent of Stravinsky in the pieces that play during battle scenes. While “King’s March” features various variations in addition to the string version, the beauty of the “King’s March Spinet Version” is particularly exceptional. The spinet, an early keyboard instrument related to the harpsichord, produces a delicate sound but is characterized by its lack of sustain—the notes fade away almost immediately.By playing the spinet at a leisurely tempo—truly unbound by beats or measures—a pause is created between the fading of one note and the emergence of the next, expressing a sense of stretched-out time and profound space.Moving from this world of soft sounds to the loud sounds of orchestras and synthesizers, and spanning a wide range of frequencies from the ultra-low to the ultra-high, this work—which delivers a broad range of sounds in both volume and frequency depending on the scene—following the soundtrack for *The Revenant* and *async*, can be considered one of Sakamoto’s magnum opi.
