[Playing the Orchestra 2013], held in May 2013, marked Ryuichi Sakamoto’s first performance with a full orchestra in Japan in 16 years.This video captures the performance held on May 9 at Suntory Hall. It features “Still Life – Orchestra Version,” the orchestral arrangement of “still life” from the

album *out of noise* (2009); “Castalia,” originally composed with an orchestra in mind for YMO’s second album “Solid State Survivor” (1979), “Castalia”—which was originally composed with an orchestra in mind and is being performed by an orchestra for the first time here—as well as “Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence” (Merry Christmas on the Battlefield),“The Last Emperor,” and “The Sheltering Sky”—all newly arranged for orchestra. This album allows listeners to fully immerse themselves in the diverse soundscapes created by Ryuichi Sakamoto’s piano accompanied by a full orchestra.
