Featuring covers of well-known Okinawan songs alongside original tracks written by artists with ties to Okinawa, it’s an album that everyone can enjoy. The edition with a DVD includes music videos for two songs, plus plenty of behind-the-scenes footage from the album cover shoot and music video filming! My Okinawa.
Things I want to protect.
Things that are changing. Things I want to change. Things I hope will stay the same.
My hometown.
The place where I was born, the place where I grew up, the place I loved, the blood that flows through my veins… These feelings of
love give me strength.
For me, Okinawa is a place that teaches me to be strong.
No matter what, the sun shines into every corner of my heart.
When I’m sad, the rain washes everything away, as if crying with me.
And then, once again, the powerful sun shines down on me, no matter where I am. My mother, who
always whispered in my ear, “Don’t give up.” My Grandpa and Grandma, who
always smiled gently at me.
Okinawa, which has always reminded me to be myself. That’s where my
family’s love lies. That’s where my will to
live lies.
My favorite saying is “Life is a treasure.” I was born thanks to so
much love. I’ll live my life to the
fullest.
My beloved hometown, Okinawa, is always there to give me that push forward.
While creating this album, I had so many wonderful encounters—with people who love
Okinawa, who love music, and who are truly, truly, truly wonderful.
I’m just honestly… so happy. It was one moving moment after another.
And I’m filled with gratitude.
Because of all of you, this project came to life.
Thank you so very much.
People can’t live alone.
Those were the words my junior high school principal gave me at graduation.
Now I understand perfectly why the principal suddenly said that to me. (Laughs.)
“Don’t be alone—come over here.”
I want to be the kind of person who can reach out like that.
I sang with that sentiment in my heart.
To everyone involved in this album, thank you so very much.
To all the little ones in Tokyo and Okinawa!!! Young people! Haha. Thank you!
Mom. Family. Friends. To everything in Okinawa, to all the memories...
thank you so much!
And to everyone who picked up this album—
thank you so much.
Where are your hometowns?
Please tell me when we meet.
With love.
Hiroko Shimabukuro
