The Tohoku Youth Orchestra, a mixed orchestra of elementary school students to university students from Iwate, Miyagi and Fukushima prefectures, was started by Ryuichi Sakamoto immediately after the Great East Japan Earthquake.
The orchestra will perform on March 23, 2024 in Iwate, March 24 in Miyagi, March 30 in Fukushima, and March 31 in Tokyo as a memorial concert for director Ryuichi Sakamoto, who passed away on March 28 of the previous year. The concert featured Sakamoto's signature songs "The Last Emperor," "Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence," "Aqua," "The Sheltering Sky," "El Mar Mediterrani," which Sakamoto wrote for the opening ceremony of the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, "Japan Soccer Song," known as one of the anthems of Japanese soccer, and "The Last Emperor," which was also performed in Ryuichi Sakamoto's last solo piano concert, "Opus. The concert is a collection of Ryuichi Sakamoto's music, including "Aqua" and "The Sheltering Sky," "El Mar Mediterrani," which Sakamoto wrote for the opening ceremony of the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, and "Japan Soccer Song," one of Japan's most popular soccer anthems.
Sayuri Yoshinaga and Nono participated in the reading corner.

Proceeds from the sale of this album will fund activities to continue the Tohoku Youth Orchestra.
