A live DVD of the “Ryuichi Sakamoto Playing The Piano 2009 Europe” tour, which spanned two months from October 7 to December 2, 2009, and featured 27 performances across six European countries: Germany, Belgium, Italy, France, Spain, and the United Kingdom.
This tour marked Ryuichi Sakamoto’s first solo piano tour in nine years, during which he performed numerous classic songs, including “Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence” and “The Sheltering Sky.” For
this tour, two pianos were set up on stage: Professor Sakamoto played one himself, while the other—programmed with his musical data—performed automatically.You can witness the ultimate performance by this world-renowned musician.
A compilation of excerpts from this live footage, along with documentary segments and interviews, was broadcast on BS Japan on Saturday, April 23, from 8:00 p.m. to 9:55 p.m. Following the broadcast, there was a flood of requests for a DVD release of the full live performance, leading to this long-awaited release.This is a valuable video release capturing the
professor’s flawless performance, which he described as “something descending from heaven.”
