A selection of tracks performed on the 2010 and 2011 episodes of “schola (Schola) Ryuichi Sakamoto’s School of Music,” which were performed on the TV program. “schola” is a CD series that Ryuichi Sakamoto has dedicated his life’s work to, with the aim of academically exploring music across all genres, from classical to rock and world music.
The idea of turning this series—which had been under consideration since the CD project’s inception—into a TV program led to the launch of “schola: Ryuichi Sakamoto’s School of Music” on NHK E-Tele in 2010. The show has consistently achieved high ratings for each episode, which is unusual for NHK.This was Ryuichi Sakamoto’s first regular appearance on a TV program, and its main highlights include his lectures during workshops with students, as well as the numerous musical performances featured on the show—which bring together star-studded guests for dream collaborations across various genres.This album features a selection of those performances—including some that were edited or cut from the original broadcasts—recorded in their complete, unedited form from the 2010 and 2011 seasons of *schola: Ryuichi Sakamoto’s School of Music* ♪
