the previous album left a sharp, edgy impression, this new work strongly conveys warmth, a sense of circularity, and inclusiveness born from a more fluid, curvilinear approach. Yet, from the unfathomable sadness, lethargy, and gloom hidden deep within its depths, a murky, “cursed object”-like turbidity oozes out thickly.
When this “turbidity” or “distortion” intersects with Niko’s playing—which seems to leave reason behind—it prevents the loss of the band’s essential rock identity (a pitfall rock bands often fall into when playing pop) and establishes them as a rock band that strums out a brand of pop that only Niko can produce.
The madness ignited by the setting sun at dusk,emotions that are more reddish-black than orange, the flushed heat that blood brings, transcending reason—these songs, imbued with antithetical elements, vividly hack and interweave dance music, expanding the boundaries of rock and the band itself, striving to weave something unprecedented, unique, and “one of a kind.”
