Ryuichi Sakamoto’s majestic, richly lyrical compositions and ambitious soundscapes resonate throughout the entire series. The album features a total of 27 tracks.
This highly anticipated space horror sci-fi series features an original story and screenplay by novelist and film director Hirotaka Adachi (Otsuichi), with character designs by Yoshitaka Amano, known for the “Final Fantasy” video game series.(The Netflix series “Exception” will be available exclusively worldwide starting October 13, 2022.)
Ryuichi Sakamoto commented, “While genetic engineering technologies such as cloning are advancing in the modern era, I believe the questions that arise are: ‘What is life?’ and ‘What is humanity?’ This is a work that tackles those questions head-on.”
“For the main theme, I wanted to create symphonic music—a staple of sci-fi films since *Star Wars*. For the soundtrack as a whole, I aimed for a dark, ambient sound, striving to make it feel like a single piece of music that flows throughout the entire series rather than being divided by individual scenes. That said, I did include some intense sounds for battle scenes and the like. Personally, I’m very pleased with how the soundtrack turned out,” he commented.
