Tokyo University of the Arts and concludes with previously unreleased, electrifying live tracks from YMO’s 1979 performance of “The End of Asia” in London.From the first half, centered on
classical and contemporary music, to the middle section featuring masterpieces from his time as an arranger, and on to the final section of experimental music and techno-pop, this yearbook traces the tumultuous 1970s of Ryuichi Sakamoto through sound.
While many of the tracks are being released on CD or commercially available for the first time, the highlight is undoubtedly the inclusion of the complete performance of “Memories of Nazca (Device of Non-Dream, or Music as an Anti-Communal Function)” from his 1978 solo exhibition.
In addition to commentary on Ryuichi Sakamoto’s works, the set includes a booklet featuring an interview with Haruomi Hosono, who discusses Sakamoto during this era.

　The sequel to the yearbook-style compilation CD *Year Book 2005–2014*—released on his birthday in 2015 and centered on previously unreleased tracks—is *Year Book 1971–1979*, which compiles Ryuichi Sakamoto’s activities from the 1970s, spanning his amateur days through his professional debut.This three-CD set—even more extensive than its predecessor—is packed with previously unreleased and unpublished tracks from Ryuichi Sakamoto’s 1970s career. It features his compositional works from his time at the Tokyo University of the Arts

, such as “Piano Sonata” (1971), as well as modern classical pieces like the legendary piano piece“Dispersion, Boundary, Sand” (1976)—are included alongside his first recordings, arrangements, and overseas recordings in the fields of folk, pop, and rock, capturing memorable tracks for both the Japanese pop scene and Ryuichi Sakamoto himself.
　It also compiles a collection of “phantom” works that Ryuichi Sakamoto created, performed, and arranged at the time while operating almost anonymously.
